A bit about me.

My birthday is August 14, which is also Korea's birthday. (This was when the Treaty of Svalbard was put into full force.)

Headcanons:

She really, really tries to keep a level head like her brother, but she can get really mad, really quickly.

It's rare to catch her smiling, but it does happen.

She hoards seeds.

She does enjoy company, she just doesn't like to show it.

She has a passion for seafood, but can't cook very well at all.

She has a massive fear of Russia.

She is very protective of her brother, Jan Mayen.

She has a hard time expressing her true feelings to people, so it just comes out as anger most of the time.

She tends to be blunt and inconsiderate, mostly because she lived life as a recluse for so long.

So this is Svalbard! She's a little hard to get to know at first, but I'm sure she'll warm up if you're nice to her.

Svalbard is an island north of Norway and Sweden, most well known for their polar bears. In fact, it holds one fifth of the world's polar bears! While the island is mostly uninhabited, there are a few towns, including Longyearbyen, which has a governor, a primary and secondary school, a pool, a library... you know, all those town-y stuff. Most of the people who live on Svalbard are Norwegians, but there are also many Russians. It is one of the safest places on earth too!

Now to Sval's personality...

She's generally pretty cold. But she's pretty welcoming under all that ice. She has a close relationship with Norway, as well as her sister, Spitsbergen. Due to the coal mines around her home, Russia keeps a VERY close eye on her, which freaks her out. Once, he offered to help Norway "protect" her, but Norway politely declined (thankfully). She receives frequent visits from Denmark, Sweden, Thailand, and Germany, who is still trying to apologize for what happened to her in WWII.

(Actual History) During WWII, Germans invaded Svalbard, and most of the Norwegians were forced to evacuate. Germans settled on the island, mostly for meteorology. But while the Germans were still there, there was still a small number of Norwegians on Spitsbergen.

In WWII, the Germans invaded Svalbard's home. Norway was too beaten up to rescue her, but part of him always wanted to help save her. Meanwhile, Svalbard's sister, Spitsbergen, was fighting the Germans to help save her sister. After the war, Svalbard never quite trusted Prussia, but she slowly forgave Germany. Part of her still feels sad that Norway nearly abandoned her though.

(Actual History) The Cold War was another busy time for the island. Russians were trying to get Norway on their side, so they offered military protection of Svalbard. The Norwegians rejected the idea, and then joined NATO. However, the Russians still kept a strong presence on the island, and were determined to make sure that Svalbard was not used to help NATO.

During the Cold War, Russia was appearing more and more frequently around Svalbard's house. She was really getting freaked out, but Norway's was doing his best to make sure that Russia understood that he had no intention of joining his side. Even after Norway joined NATO, Russia continued following Svalbard around the house.

In terms of her friends, Sval has very few close friends. She tries to be as cold to Denmark as Norway is, but she secretly doesn't mind having him around. She finds Sweden scary, but doesn't mind him that much either. Her closest friend is her sister, Spitsbergen, and her brother, Jan Mayen, although he doesn't talk much these days. She also is friends with Hammerfest, and secretly likes him deep down, although she knows that it won't happen. She's also friends with Bouvet Island, although she finds it hard to talk to him (because they are on opposite ends of the globe) and often stutters around him or says things that are completely inhuman.

She also has a pet polar bear named Fjell.

Believe it or not, Svalbard's hair is actually blonde, just like Norway's! However, coal dust has completely covered her hair, making it look black. She's tried to wash it out, but it seems to be permanently stuck there...

As a side note, Sval's curl IS NOT her e-zone. If you pull it, she'll probably just kick you halfway to Australia.

She also has a general dislike for men because her community is a male-dominated community because of the coal mining, although she generally gets along better with men than other girls.
